terminal tips for Finder

Enable path view in Finder:

Because I use so many folders and files, I often find myself lost in my hard drive. To enable the pathview in the Finder just type this in the terminal:

defaults write com.apple.finder _FXShowPosixPathInTitle -bool YES

after doing this you need to restart your Finder. Do this by typing in:

killall Finder

(mind the capital F)

to disable this, just replace the YES by NO.

Change interval time machine backup

for every half an hour:

sudo defaults write /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.backupd-auto StartInterval -int 1800

The number at the end specifies the amount of seconds. So if you wish to backup only once every two hours or so you use 7200

Convert DMG to ISO

First of all, navigate to the folder where the DMG is located. Then use this command (replace yourImage to the filename).

hdiutil convert YourImage.dmg -format UDTO -o YourImage.iso

Enable Quit  in Finder

This enables you to quit the Finder from the menu:

defaults write com.apple.finder QuitMenuItem -bool YES
killall Finder

Show hidden files in Finder

Don‘t forget to quit the Finder afterwards:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
killall Finder

Just type defaults write com.apple.finder QuitMenuItem -bool NO in your terminal and then type in killall Finder. This will disable the quit function of the Finder.
